The Bombers 2012 season opened with a tough loss to the newest team in the TCL, The Woodlands Strykers. Stykers centerfielder, Ricardo Sanchez blooped a Tyler Eppler pitch over Adam Pena’s head giving the Strykers their first ever win.
The Bombers offense started out slow but came alive in the top of the 7th inning. With the team down 5-0 the Bombers scored 5 runs to knot the game at 5-5. The rally was all started by Montgomery native Brennyn Smith and Bobby Butvin who had back to back singles.
The pitching staff was led by Tulsa, Oklahoma native, Mason Justice, who pitched 5.1 innings. Justice was relieved by lefty Andrew Hohn who recorded two strikeouts in the bottom of the 7th inning. Also in the same inning catcher Braden Mattson threw out a runner at second base. Eppler came in to relieve Hohn in the 8th inning and pitched the rest of the game.
The Bombers will play in The Woodlands tonight at 7:05 before heading to Victoria for a two game series starting Monday before returning for the 2012 home opener this coming Wednesday night against the Arcadiana Cane Cutters.
