Bombers Join in March Madness Fun

March Madness is underway and millions of avid basketball fans around the country are following the action closely to see how well they will be able to predict the outcome of the tournament. The Brazos Valley Bombers were no exception, as Head Coach Brent Alumbaugh and several players put their basketball IQ to the test.

With day one of the tournament in the books, half of the second round matchups have been decided and the remaining games will be decided today. Alumbaugh put his basketball knowledge on display, picking 15 of the 16 games correctly, including Western Kentucky’s upset over Illinois. His only gaffe was the Maryland-California game, in which he chose the Golden Bears.

Bombers owner Uri Geva and mascot KaBoom were nearly perfect as well, picking 15 out of 16 correctly on the first day of action. But with KaBoom picking two upsets today, the standings may look entirely different this time tomorrow. Only time will tell if his choices of 11th-seeded Dayton over West Virginia and 12th-seeded Arizona over Utah will make or break his bracket.

Cody Cotter of the University of St. Louis leads the players’ brackets so far, as he correctly chose 14 out of 16 games. His only mishaps were the Maryland-California game and Clemson-Michigan game, in which the 10th seeded Wolverines triumphed over Clemson.

The March Madness fun is only beginning and promises to get more exciting with each new day. Stay tuned to the Daily Fly Over to see how the Bombers fare in the rest of the 2009 Tournament Pick ‘Em.
