Just days after the Bombers announced four Aggies would take the field for them this summer, Texas A&M enjoyed a three-game sweep of Texas-Pan Am over the weekend – with significant contributions from future Bombers.
Leading the way among the quartet was first baseman Darby Brown, who started all three games for the Aggies. Brown notched a pair of multi-hit games on his way to 5-for-11 hitting over the weekend, a .455 clip. Better yet, the run producer picked up three RBI and scored three times as well. On Saturday, his first-inning double staked the Aggies to a 2-0 lead, and then he scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to cement the win. The weekend performance upped Brown’s season average to .364, the top mark on the team for players that have played every game. The Lubbock native also ranks among team leaders in runs, RBI, hits, and slugging percentage.
Despite seeing action in one game over the weekend, Dane Carter made his presence known. Starting on Saturday at second base and hitting in the nine-hole, Carter collected his first hit of the season. But this was no ordinary hit: With two outs and the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Carter’s double to left gave the Aggies a two-run lead and A&M never looked back.
Outfielder Daman Aaron saw action in two of the three games, including a start in center field for Saturday’s contest. He notched a double in three at-bats on Saturday, and came to the plate during the Aggies game-changing five-run sixth-inning rally on Sunday.
Third baseman Josey Parker didn’t see action over the weekend, but the news was still good for the slugger from Jasper. The junior transfer, who was felled in the fall by a separated shoulder and subsequent surgery, has been cleared to swing again and is getting closer to taking the field.
