The Bombers continued their winning ways on Tuesday night at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark, winning their 4th straight game by a score of 6-2 over the Coppell Copperheads. The win makes 8 in 9 games for the Bombers, and puts them just a game and a half behind the expansion Acadiana CaneCutters for first place in the TCL standings.
Head Coach Brent Alumbaugh had been wanting to see a little more from his team at the plate, and the Bombers responded in a big way on Tuesday, scoring 6 runs on 14 base hits. Even more impressive about the performance is that 3 of those runs came against starting pitcher Carlton O’Neal of the Copperheads, who had allowed just 1 run in 16.1 innings entering the game. The Bombers were led at the plate by Trey Porras, who is the leading hitter in the TCL this season. Porras went 4-4 with a double and 2 runs batted in, and John Cannon drove in 3 runners. The Bombers also got another great pitching performance, as starter Alec Mills pitched 7 strong innings, allowing 2 runs and striking out 4.
If the Bombers have been good recently, they stand to get even better as the rest of their roster arrives. Texas A&M’s untimely exit from the College World Series means that the Bombers will be rounding out their roster with Aggies soon. Alumbaugh commented on the players, noting that “anytime you can add quality players to your roster, it puts you in a position to be successful.” With the roll the team is currently on, and the coming addition of major talent from the Aggies, it looks to be an exciting summer at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark.
The Bombers are on the road for the remainder of the week, with series against the Alexandria Aces and the Coppell Copperheads. The team will return home next Monday, where fans are thrilled about the UPA Kids Zone being 100% FREE to all kids in attendance. Next Tuesday’s game is Guaranteed Win Night at the ballpark, brought to you by Jones & Lowe Agency, where if the Bombers fail to deliver a win, every fan in the park will be able to get into another game FREE of charge.
