The (8-4) Bombers win their first match-up against the (5-8) Baton Rouge Rougarou. This was the first match-up between the two teams. Bombers newcomer and 3rd baseman, Cole Posey continues to make an impact in his 2nd game for the team, finishing the game with two hits and three runs scored in three at bats. Thanks to Posey and a trio of RBIs hit in by Davis Powell, the Bombers cruised to a 7-2 victory over the visiting Rougarou.
The Bombers found their way onto the scoreboard first. A Powell sac-fly into right field was enough to score Posey from 3rd base in the bottom of the 2nd to put the Bombers up 1-0 early.
The Rougarou found their only runs of the night in the top of the 3rd. After loading the bases, Landon Leblanc hit into an infield fielder’s choice and scored two, Ethan Menard and Brock Slaton from 2nd and 3rd.
Powell recorded his 2nd RBI of the game in the 4th, tying the game 2 apiece with an RBI single to score Posey. The next batter, leadoff man Travis Chestnut, scores Kade Fletcher from 3rd after laying an incredible RBI bunt down the 3rd baseline and beats out the throw to 1st himself. Later in the inning. 1st baseman Shelby Becker hits a sac-fly to left center to score Powell from 3rd.
The Bombers tack on another two runs in the 5th for a 6-2 lead, Brandon Bishop scored off an RBI single by Fletcher, who finished with two hits and a run in his four at bats. Posey found his way home quickly after to deflate Baton Rouge’s chances of a comeback.
For an even bigger Bombers safety net, the home squad adds another run in the bottom of the 8th. Kyle Atkinson recorded his first hit of the game, a screaming shot to left-center field for a triple, and then scored off a Shelby Becker fielder’s choice.
The Bombers finished the night with nine hits to the Rougarou’s six and take a 7-2 victory. The navy and gold are back at it at Edible Field tomorrow night to face off against the Rougarou again.
