Bryan-College Station, TX (February 5, 2015) – With the 2015 Texas Collegiate League (TCL) season right around the corner, the Brazos Valley Bombers are pleased to announce the signing of two essential players from Michigan State University.
Ethan Landon and Dakota Mekkes, both pitchers from MSU, are expected to have a large impact on the Bombers as they begin their upcoming season.
“The Bombers are fortunate to have Michigan State University send two of their better pitchers to the Brazos Valley this summer,” said Curt Dixon, Bombers head coach.
Sophomore pitcher Ethan Landon, a transfer from Kansas State University, is expected to bring his talents to the Bombers this summer. Throughout his freshman year at Kansas State, Landon made 24 appearances and posted a 3.26 ERA in 30.1 innings of work.
“Ethan is a talented right-handed pitcher (RHP) with high level experience under his belt,” Dixon said. “Look for him to be in the rotation this summer.”
Dakota Mekkes a graduate of Jenison High School in Michigan, is currently a red shirt freshman at Michigan State University. Mekkes had an impressive senior season at Jenison, posting a 2.28 ERA while striking out 73 batters. During his senior campaign, he was selected to the all-conference, all-area, and all-region teams.
“Dakota has an arm that will play a big role for the Bombers,” Dixon said. “He has a great presence on the mound with his 6’7” frame.”
Mekkes and Landon are the first Michigan State players to sign with the Bombers, as the roster begins to take shape for the defending TCL champions.
After becoming the first team in TCL history to win back-to-back championships, the Brazos Valley Bombers are looking forward to maintaining a strong and experienced team throughout the upcoming season. The Bombers’ season starts on May 28 against the Strykers in the Woodlands after securing an 8-1 record against the Strykers in 2014.
