Before the game Bombers fans rushed the field to grab one of many large stars as part of the Montelongo’s Fine Jewelry Derby Dash. Twelve lucky ladies received a Bombers Blue Topaz and one received a Half- Carat Diamond.
The Pump Jacks got an early lead, scoring two in the top of the first and one more in the third to earn a 3-0 lead. In the fifth, Jacob House led off with a triple followed by a Greg Olson walk. A Brennyn Smith single plated house, giving the Bombers their first run of the game. After a Cameron Dullnig RBI sacrifice fly, John Cannon doubled to tie the score at 3-3.
In the seventh the Pump Jacks regained the lead, scoring two to make the score 5-3. In the bottom of the same inning, after an Olson leadoff walk, Smith belted a moon shot home run over the left field fence, tying the score back up at 5-5. The Bombers weren’t done though as Morgan Mickan scored Dullnig on a single and then he scored on a wild pitch three batters later to give the Bombers the 7-5 lead.
Nick Fleece came on in the ninth to close things out but quickly found himself with no outs and runners on the corners. Jacob House caught a line drive at first and stepped on the bag for a double play then Isaac Nuti fielded a ground ball and tossed to first to get the last out, sealing the win.
The Bombers will return to action tomorrow night in Kilgore against the same Pump Jacks at 7:05p.m. Should the Bombers advance to the next round their schedule would be determined by the series between the Texas Tomcats and the Victoria Generals. If the Tomcats win Game 1 would be in Weimar Friday with Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) in Bryan. If the Generals win, Game 1 would be at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark on Fireworks Friday with Game 2 and 3 (if necessary) in Victoria. Currently the Generals lead the Tomcats 1-0.
