The Bombers won their third consecutive game on Tuesday night, behind some stellar pitching and timely offense. Shipwreck Grill’s Pirate Night at the ballpark featured a compass giveaway, and fans were treated not only to the sailing tool, but also to a great pitchers duel where the Bombers ultimately prevailed over the Victoria Generals by a score of 3-1.
Alec Mills was dominant on the mound for the Bombers, as he stymied a Generals’ lineup through seven innings. Generals hitters only mustered 2 hits in 7 innings against the righty and struck out 10 times. Mills out-dueled right-handed pitcher Michael Oros of the Generals, who took the loss after allowing 3 runs (2 earned) to cross the plate in his 7+ innings pitched. Brad Porras and Christian Soberanes paved the way at the plate for the Bombers, each driving in a run. The team carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 8th inning, where they were able to tack on an insurance run via error. The run wouldn’t be necessary, as Garrett Shepperd made quick work of the Generals in his two innings pitched in relief of Mills, striking out four and earning the save in his first appearance of the season.
The team travels to Coppell riding a wave of momentum as they head to their mid-week series against the Copperheads. The Bombers will return home to face the Alexandria Aces for their weekend series. Friday night is Auction Night at the ballpark, and will offer fans the chance to bid on game-worn jerseys from their favorite Bombers. Saturday’s game will be Bark in the Park night, as well as the first Kids Free Saturday, where kids and dogs will get in FREE, and kids will enjoy free food and tickets for the UPA Kids Zone at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark.
