He’s at it again! After being named Paramount Property Analysts’ TCL Pitcher of the Week last Wednesday, the Bombers’ Damien Rivera followed up his award-winning performance with a dominant outing against the Acadiana Cane Cutters, earning him the award for the second consecutive week.
Rivera baffled the Cane Cutters’ hitters for eight innings last Friday, allowing just four batters to reach base in his eight innings pitched. He struck out three and allowed one run, leading the Bombers to a 6-1 victory.
The win improves Rivera’s record to a pristine 5-0 on the season in five starts, good for second place among all TCL starting pitchers, and lowered his ERA to a miniscule 1.87. His ERA is best among the Bombers’ starting pitchers, and ranks third among all qualified pitchers in the league.
Rivera is the second player to win the award in consecutive weeks, but the first to win both of the distinctions outright. He is joined by teammates Trey Porras and Alec Mills as the only Bombers to earn recognition for their performance by the league this season.
Rivera is scheduled to take his next turn in the rotation on Friday against the Victoria Generals. The Bombers are 10-3 in games Rivera has pitched, so they’ll need to capitalize on his outing as they continue to compete for a playoff berth.
You can catch all the action at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark, where tickets start at just $5. The next game is tonight, which is Beach Night at the ballpark with a beach ball giveaway.
