The Bombers clinched their spot in the TCL Playoffs with a 3-2 victory over the Victoria Generals. The win means the Bombers will take on the East Texas Pump Jacks on Friday night at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark, where fans of all ages will get in FREE for Free Playoff Fridays.
The two teams battled back and forth all game long, with both owning the lead at some point. The Bombers got on the board first, scoring in the opening inning to go up 1-0. Victoria strung together a walk, a single, and a double in the 3rd inning to go up 2-1, but the Bombers answered in the 6th inning to tie the score at 2 apiece. After a gutsy double play to kill a rally by the Generals in the top of the 7th inning, Trey Porras singled home Kevin Wirth to put the Bombers up 3-2.
Logan Burch and Garrett Shepperd came on in relief of starter Josh Dean to lock down the Generals lineup for two innings, sealing the win and the playoff berth for the Bombers. Dean recorded the win in the contest, with Shepperd collecting his 11th save on the year.
Other notable performances include a 3-for-3 night by Brennyn Smith, who also drove in two runs on the day. Trey Porras went 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI.
The Bombers will host the Pump Jacks at 7:05 tomorrow at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark in the first leg of the best of three game series.
