Bombers Shutout Strykers 2-0

Bryan-College Station, TX (June 10, 2014) – Following Sunday’s shutout win, The Brazos Valley Bombers (8-3) traveled to the Woodlands and produced another shutout victory against the Woodlands Strykers (3-7) Tuesday. The 2-0 victory maintained the Bombers’ half-game lead in the Texas Collegiate League.

The Bombers got on the board in the fourth inning after left fielder Hunter Haley scored off a Strykers error.

The Bombers added another run in the top of the sixth after Horacio Correa III capitalized on numerous Strykers’ errors and a well-timed stolen base.

With their third shutout of the season, the Bombers’ pitching squad continues to be the team’s strength. Starter Nick Johnson earned his second win of the season after unexpectedly making his first start of the season.

“Seven innings, seven zeroes on the board,” said Curtis Dixon, Bombers head coach. “[I] couldn’t ask for anything better out of him.”

Dixon also had high praise for closer Cannon Chadwick—who earned his third save of the season—describing him as “dominant” in his return to the lineup after suffering forearm soreness.

On Wednesday, the Bombers will attempt to end their four-game road trip 3-1 after a rematch against the Strykers. The Bombers will return home on Thursday, June 12th for a four-game home stand that begins with their first matchup of the season against the Texas Marshals.
