Bombers’ Win Streak Stretches To Nine After Road Victory Against PumpJacks
Bombers Ride Four-Run First Inning To Victory
Tyler, TX (July 21, 2015) – After sweeping the East Texas PumpJacks at home on Saturday and Sunday, the Brazos Valley Bombers hit the road to take the first step towards repeating that feat at Irwin-UT Tyler Ballpark in Tyler on Tuesday night.
The Bombers opened the scoring early with four runs in the 1st inning and it was a lead they would not relinquish as they would go on to win by a score of 7-4. Third baseman Garrett Benge went 3-for-3 with a run scored, 2 RBI, and a walk. Matt Hilston, tied for the league-lead in RBI going into Tuesday’s ballgame, drove in three runs for the Bombers to push his total to 28.
Callaway Kirkpatrick earned the victory on the mound, improving his record to 3-1 this season. Brandon Pennington pitched a scoreless 9th inning to earn his sixth save of the season, tying him for he league lead in that category.
The Bombers’ record improves to 32-6 overall and 13-2 in the second half. In search of their ninth consecutive half-season championship; the Bombers remain one game ahead of the Victoria Generals, who currently sit in second place.
The Bombers have three more road games Wednesday-Friday before their next game at Cellucor Field on Saturday, July 25. Saturday will be the first game of a two-game homestand against the Woodlands Strykers. That night will be Agricultural Night, sponsored by Molly Maids, featuring a petting zoo at the ballpark; as well as Kids Free Saturday, with free admission for children 13 and under, thanks to Chicken Express.
