Infielders Enhance the Bombers 2016 Roster
Bombers Continue to Claim Infielders from Colleges All Over the US
Bryan-College Station, TX (May 16, 2016)-The Brazos Valley Bombers gain six infielders to help strengthen their roster pulling from a variety of colleges across the states. Jake Baxter, Zach McGuire, Logan Bottrell, Ryan Olenek, Ivan Estrella and Alex Samples will be joining the Bombers in the 2016 season.
The Texas native, Jake Baxter, strengthens the Bombers 2016 baseball roster with his versatile player abilities as both a pitcher and a hitter. At Oklahoma Christian University, Baxter had a successful sophomore season as a pitcher with 10 starts out of his 11 appearances and pitched 5 complete games. He obtained 33 strikeouts in 68 2/3 innings. As a hitter, Baxter earned a .220 batting average with 2 homeruns as well as bringing in 5 RBI’s.
Zach McGuire is a sophomore joining the Bombers from Michigan State University. In 2015, McGuire appeared in 20 games making 10 starts as a designated hitter. He finished his 2015 season at Michigan State with a batting average of .244 consisting of 2 doubles and 8 RBI’s.
Logan Bottrell, the second base freshman, is from Cochise College in Arizona. Bottrell is joining the Bombers after gaining an RBI of 25 after 54 game appearances this past season at Cochise. He holds a batting average of .314.
Ryan Olenek is joining the Bombers as a freshman from Ole Miss. During his freshman year at Ole Miss he obtained an RBI of 26 along with a batting average of .274. Olenek defended his successful high school baseball career after being named the 13th best shortstop in Florida by Perfect Game and being awarded the 2015 Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American Florida Region award. Olenek also proved his pitching skills his senior year after pitching 44 strikeouts in 43 innings over a span of 9 appearances.
Ivan Estrella is a sophomore from Pima Community College located in Tuscan, Arizona. Estrella has currently appeared in 56 games achieving a batting average of .296. Throughout the season he has successfully stole five bases and obtained an RBI of 24.
Another Texas native, Alex Samples, joins the Bombers this season from Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. Samples has appeared in 37 games this season hitting 9 home runs so far. He is currently holding a batting average of .360 and an RBI of 47.
The Bombers are set to take the field on May 27th to begin their “Road to Four” at home against the Acadiana Cane Cutters.
