Bryan-College Station (June 24, 2016) – Brazos Valley was down 7- 0 after two innings but made a furious rally that fell just short, as they dropped an 8-7 decision in front of a sellout crowd on Heroes Night. The Bombers honored the local heroes in the Brazos Valley community.
The Bombers comeback attempt started in the 5th inning as Anthony Herrera and Alex Samples had back-to-back singles, forcing the Strykers into a pitching change. Herrera would score after a Ben Hollis’ single, putting Brazos Valley was within three.
Samples got the scoring started in the 7th with an RBI double. Zack McGuire was hit by Strykers’ J.T. Jakubik with the bases loaded, to bring around Herrera. Hunter Wilson followed McGuire with a sacrifice fly that scored Samples, bringing the score to 8-7. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Bombers would get.
Overall, Samples would finish a homer shy of the cycle and scored two runs along with knocking two in. Wilson gets credit for 2 RBI, with a sacrifice fly and a hit by pitch. Leadoff man, John Grimsley, would get on base three times and score two runs.
The Brazos Valley Bombers will look to return to the win column tomorrow during Kids Eat Free Saturday, hosted by Chicken Express, as they take on the Woodland Strykers. The Bombers will also celebrate the halfway mark to Christmas with Leon Day, brought to you from the Salvation Army. If you bring a donation for a Forgotten Angel to the game tomorrow, you will receive four free tickets to any Bombers game this season thanks to the Salvation Army. The Bomber players will also wear Ugly Sweater jerseys, sponsored by Batteries Plus Bulbs, to be auctioned off during the game.
