Texarkana, Texas (July 8, 2017)-The Brazos Valley Bombers offense showed up big tonight agaisnt Texarkana with nine runs on thirteen hits to defeat the twins by a final score of 9-5 to split the series with the twins before heading to Acadiana to take on the Cane Cutters.
Texarkana struck for three runs in the top of the first inning off of starter CJ Varela. But from then on out, Varela buckled down. The next six innings went scoreless for the Twins behind a ‘gritty’ start and a trio of scoreless innings in relief from Brandon Ivey.
At the same time, the Bombers lineup exploded with 9 unanswered runs including a pair of solo shots from Blake Clanton (1) and Jared Mang (2).
In the 8th, the Twins scratched across a run and had another runner thrown out at home on a controversial call that resulted in Texarkana Manager Jake Mitzner’s ejection.
Then in the 9th, Dayden Lane was brought on to get the final two outs and eventually loaded the bases before getting pinch hitter Cole Coffey to fly-out into left field for the final out.
Jared Mang was named the Nutrabolt Player of the Game going 3-4 with a HR, 2 1B, BB, 3 RBIs and reaching safely in 9 of 10 at-bats over the two game series.
With the win, the Bombers improve to 21-9 on the season and hold their 4 game lead over the Generals in the Baylor Scott & White Health TCL Standings.
The Bombers head to Acadiana Sunday afternoon to take on the Cane Cutters for the first time on the road since the first series of the season on May 26-27. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and the pre-game show can be found on Willy 1550 and radioaggieland.com starting at 6:45pm.
