Bombers Newest Additions Add Fuel to the Fire

The Brazos Valley Bombers strengthened their infield and pitching staff with the additions of two talented players, Dustin Dickerson of Baylor and Cody Springer of Sam Houston State University. Both players should be able to make an immediate impact for a team already loaded with stars.

After serving as Baylor’s starting first baseman for the last two seasons, Dickerson brings experience and maturity to a young Bombers team. Following a successful freshman season in which he finished 6th in Big 12 Conference play with a .373 batting average, Dickerson has had anything but a sophomore slump. The six-foot four-inch slugger is hitting .309 with four home runs, 41 RBI, 16 doubles, and a team-leading five stolen bases. Dickerson is no stranger to summer league ball either, as he spent last summer playing for the Wareham Gateman of the famed Cap Cod League. He was named the league’s 79th best pro prospect after collecting 23 hits and eight RBI. At Midway High School, Dickerson put his incredible athletic ability on display as he lettered in baseball and football. After being selected as a Preseason Second Team All-American and ranked as the #62 best pro prospect by Baseball America before his senior season, he lived up to the hype and hit .426 with five home runs, 37 RBI, and 51 runs scored. He was also selected an all-district wide receiver in football and led his team to the district title. Dickerson should prove be a vital cog in the middle of the Bombers lineup this summer as they contend for the TCL Championship.

A teammate of former Bomber Keith Stein, Cody Springer should be a valuable addition to the Bombers’ pitching staff. Springer has had a superb freshman season at Sam Houston State, leading all Bearcat pitchers with a 3.21 ERA. He also struck out 12 hitters in 14 innings while only giving up five earned runs all season. Although he came out of the bullpen for much of his freshman season at Sam Houston State, Springer has the versatility to start as well. At Montgomery High School, he was a four-year starter and led his team to the state semifinals and district title after going 13-1 his senior season and being selected as an All-District pitcher. A year earlier as a junior, he was selected to the 2006 High School Coaches Association Junior All-Star team.

It will be an exciting summer for the Bombers as they prepare for the upcoming season.
