With the Brazos Valley Bombers’ season around the corner, the team kicked off their season in style with the First Annual Fan Fest. Eric Udell put on a show for the nearly 200 people in attendance, slamming five home runs to win the Home Run Derby.
It was a night full of fun and entertainment as the 2008 Bombers took batting practice and signed autographs for the many eager fans in attendance, before the season ticket holders got their chance to take batting practice. KaBoom also took his turn at the plate and calmly pointed his bat out towards the right field fence as Babe Ruth did, but was unexpectedly drilled by the pitch. KaBoom, who has never been accused of being a coward, charged the mound to let the pitcher know how he felt about the pitch.
Following batting practice came the main event of the night, the Home Run Derby. With the winds howling in from right field, the conditions were difficult, but Eric Udell and Cliff Vaughn each managed to hit a home run to advance to the championship round. Vaughn hit a second home run in the final round, but Eric Udell caught fire, hitting four bombs to bring his total to five and capture the Home Run Derby Championship.
The final event of the evening was the Treasure Hunt Home Run Sweepstakes, which gave three lucky fans the chance to hit a home run to win $1000. Virginia Kennedy, Donna Hancock, and Travis Burch were selected, but despite their best efforts, were unable to hit the coveted long ball.
