Daily Notes for March 28

Match up of the Weekend
Long Beach State, now ranked #4 after winning 15 of their last 17 games, travels to Berkeley to play the #11 ranked California Golden Bears in a three game series this weekend. It should be a tightly contested series as both teams are loaded with talent and experience. Dustin Rasco, who will join Bomber holdovers from last summer T.J. Mittelstaedt and Kip Masuda, has been fantastic this season. In 11 games, he is 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA, serving primarily as the setup man for Bryan Shaw. Rasco has limited opposing hitters to a .194 batting average while striking out an unbelievable 19 batters in just 10 innings.

Tyler Davis goes for second straight win
Tyler Davis, the Bomber’s closer last summer, will attempt to win his second consecutive game today, as McNeese State squares away against Southeastern Louisiana. He was dazzling in his last start, pitching seven innings and striking out six in an impressive 6-3 win over Nicholls State. His teammate and fellow Bomber, Shon Landry, leads an offense that has been on fire lately, scoring 23 runs in the last three games. Landry leads McNeese State with five home runs and will look to add to that total this weekend.

Whitmer hopes to lead Longhorns over Nebraska
Casey Whitmer will likely see some action this weekend as #19 Nebraska comes to Austin to face his #13 ranked Texas Longhorns. Although he is not slated to start any of the weekend’s games, he will undoubtedly come out of the bullpen to pitch in one of the games. Whitmer has lived up to his high expectations so far this season, going 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in eight games, while coming along slowly following an early season injury.
