Bryan-College Station, TX (March 5, 2007) – The Brazos Valley Bombers and KZNE-AM announced today that “The Zone” will serve as the team’s official broadcast home for the 2007 season, airing more than 35 games live on 1150 AM.
“This is a natural partnership,” said general manager Mike Lieberman who, along with co-owner Uri Geva, announced the deal on the air during this morning’s “The First Word with Louie Belina” show. “KZNE is Brazos Valley’s home for ESPN Radio, as well as local shows hosted by Louie Belina and Chip Howard. This is where Bombers baseball belongs.”
“Having the Bombers is just great,” commented Belina, who will handle the bulk of the play-by-play duties during the season. “We’re really excited about being able to give our listeners the chance to follow this new franchise, when they’re at home, on the road, and in the playoffs.”
“We hope this is just the first year of what proves to be a long and fruitful relationship,” Geva added.
KZNE will carry 37 of the regular season’s 48 scheduled games, including one doubleheader. 19 of the broadcasts will be from the Bombers home at Travis Field, leaving 18 road games.
The Zone has also agreed to carry all Bombers playoff games. The top two teams in each division advance to the Texas Collegiate League postseason. The Bombers compete in the four-team Tris Speaker Division with the Coppell Copperheads, Duncanville Deputies, and Colleyville LoneStars.
The Bombers are members of the nine-team Texas Collegiate League, one of the nation’s premier summer collegiate circuits. Teams like the Bombers bring minor league baseball-style entertainment to communities throughout the country, giving some of the best college players a chance to further their careers in wood bat leagues in front of Major League scouts. The Bombers begin their 48-game inaugural season on June 5 against the Coppell Copperheads. The team’s historic home opener will take place on June 8 when the Bombers welcome the Duncanville Deputies to Travis Field.
