Brett Parsons Delivered the Game Winning Hit in the Eighth Inning to Extend His Hitting Streak to 12 Games

Box Score

The Brazos Valley Bombers have saved their heroics for the last minute in their past few home games and made tonight no exception as they came from behind for a 4-2 victory over the East Texas Pumpjacks. The Bombers trailed the majority of the game, but scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally for the victory.

The Pumpjacks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over the Bombers in the first inning on Mike Petello’s two-run triple. That’s where the score stayed for the next five innings, as Pumpjacks pitcher Matt Click kept the Bombers in check.

The Bombers got on the board in the sixth inning, as Clifton Thomas led things off with a triple. Brett Parsons was able to knock him home on a groundout to get the Bombers on the board.

The Bombers were able to avoid more trouble in the eighth inning, as the Pumpjacks had runners on the corners with only one out. Ryan Oesterle knocked the ball right back to Drew Flaniken, who fired back home to retire Greg Fontenot to save the run.

The Bombers finally got things going in the bottom of the eighth inning, as pinch hitter John Hale led off with a sharp single to left field. Wes Schill and Clifton Thomas were both able to reach after beating out sacrifice bunts to load the bases. Kyle Atkins then walked, scoring Hale, to tie the game at two. With a chance to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, Brett Parsons delivered with a two-RBI single to center field to give the Bombers the lead for good, 4-2.

Drew Flaniken pitched an easy 1-2-3 ninth inning to collect his league-leading third win of the season. The Bombers improve to 9-6 on the season, as the Pumpjacks fall to 10-4. The teams will face off again tomorrow in the series finale during Thirsty Thursday, which features $1 Draft Beers and $0.50 Soft Drinks.
