Bombers Hope to Ink Manny Ramirez

Ramirez Slugs One Of His 527 Career Home Runs

The Brazos Valley Bombers are in hot pursuit of slugger and future Hall of Fame outfielder Manny Ramirez. Ramirez, who led the Los Angeles Dodgers to the National League Semifinal last season, would bring the team credentials and power never before witnessed in Texas Collegiate League play and the Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark.

The Bombers contacted the offices of Scott Boras, Ramirez’s agent, this afternoon regarding the services of the two-time World Series Champion. They have been investigating the eligibility of Ramirez, who did not play college baseball. Bombers owner Uri Geva was stoked by the possibility of Ramirez joining the team saying, “Ramirez should be a fantastic addition to an already talented team that is poised to win its first TCL Championship.”

Ramirez needs no introduction, having hit over 500 home runs, been selected to 12 All-Star games, and won a batting title during his illustrious 16 year career with the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers. Bombers Head Coach Brent Alumbaugh also expressed his excitement about the possibility of signing Ramirez, saying “Ramirez would provide the Bombers with an experienced, consistent clean-up hitter that would strike fear in the hearts of our opponents.” Skeptics fear he may be “too old” or  “washed up” to handle the young Texas Collegiate League pitchers, but the Bombers believe Ramirez, who hit 37 home runs, including a .396 batting average with the Dodgers last season, will be able to maintain his dominance at the plate.

Although the Bombers cannot offer Ramirez a salary, as TCL players are unpaid, the team feels that opportunity to live with a host family, as well as attend picnics and barbecues, would be an attractive option for Ramirez as he mulls over his options this offseason.

The Bombers are members of the Texas Collegiate League, one of the nation’s premier summer collegiate circuits. Teams like the Bombers bring minor league baseball-style entertainment to communities throughout the country, giving some of the best college players a chance to further their careers in wood bat leagues in front of Major League scouts. The Bombers 48-game season begins on June 5 and runs through August 8, followed by the TCL playoffs and a championship series. Season tickets for the 2009 season are now on sale. More information is available by calling the Bombers ticket office at (979) 779-PLAY, visiting the Bombers office in Bryan, or logging on to the Bombers’ official web site at www.bvbombers.com.
