Bombers Scratch 3-1 Win Over Twins Friday Night

Bombers Scratch 3-1 Win Over Twins Friday Night

Jacob Padilla scores once and drives in go ahead RBI in eighth inning

Bryan/College Station, TX – July, 5 2019 - The Bombers snag a win against the only team in The TCL with a winning record against them as both teams pitching staffs locked down the opposing batters. Both starters only surrendered one run each and gave way to dominant performers out of the pen.

The Bombers did get on the board 1st though as Ridge Rogers drove in Jacob Padilla in from third on an infield single to deep short. Padilla reached on a single and was advanced to third on a double down the left field line by Tyler Smith. The Twins returned fire in the 5th as Blake Shannon drove in Christian Boulware with a single to right. Boulware led the inning off with a double and later advanced on a Matt Kissamis single to center.

Kyle Bergeron led off the bottom of the eighth with a double to center. He advanced to third by a successful sacrifice bunt by Chase Kemp. Logan Sartori is then HBP to put runners on the corners with one down. Sam McElreath then stepped into the box looking to safety squeeze, but he would not have to as Sartori was able to advance on a defensive indifference after McElreath pulled back on the bunt. The Twins would then intentionally walk McElreath to provide themselves a chance to turn a double play. That brought up Jacob Padilla who flew out to right field, but it was deep enough for Bergeron to score from third as the Bombers took a 2-1 lead. The Bombers would then push another run across on a wild pitch scoring Sartori to take a 3-1 lead. The Twins would not be able to get anything going in the ninth as they were only able to put together a single off of Joe Buckendorff.

Henry Bird had another solid outing in a Bombers uniform as he spread out 5 hits across 5 innings giving up one run, and striking out four. Bird then gave way to Amado Almanzar who had an equally as impressive performance out of the pen snagging the win. Almanzar did not allow a runner to reach base as he struck out 6 across 3 innings. Joe Buckendorff pitched the last frame getting two strikeouts and allowing one hit. The Bombers return tomorrow night as they look to even the season series at four games a piece at Travis Field. After their game tomorrow night the Bombers will hit the road for a two game set against the Acadiana Cane Cutters as it’s their first matchup since the 5th and 6th of June.
