Bombers Shine on Hollywood Night with 11-6 Win over Acadiana

The Brazos Valley Bombers returned home for two games before the TCL All Star break. They took on the Acadiana Cane Cutters tonight as it was Hollywood Night at American Momentum Bank Ballpark. The starters took part in the festivities as they came out of a limo as their names were called. More importantly though, the Bombers came together as a team to beat Acadiana 11-6.

The Bombers offense started early in the game. The offense scored three runs in the first inning. Lead off hitter, Myles Parma led the inning off with a walk. Second baseman Corey Toups then sacrificed Parma to second. Left fielder Brandon Wood then came up and drew another walk. With two runners on, first baseman James Wharton drilled a pitch over the wall in left center for a three run homerun. Two runs scored in the second. The first came on a sacrifice fly by Toups that scored center fielder Jordan Hammerman, who led the inning off with a hit and then went to second on an error. Parma got on base with a single and eventually came around to score on a bases loaded walk to designated hitter Bobby Butvin. The Bombers offense would open the flood gates in the third putting together a six run inning. Shortstop Nick Smelser led the inning off by drawing a walk. Hammerman then came up a lined a single to right center. Smelser came around to score on a single to leftfield by Toups. First baseman James Wharton then came up a drew a walk. With the bases loaded, third baseman Brennyn Smith was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game that scored Hammerman. With the bases once again loaded, Butvin drew another walk that scored Toups. Catcher, Braden Mattson then came up a lined a single that scored both Wharton and Smith. Smelser would come back to the plate and finish the scoring for the Bombers by hitting a double to left field that scored Butvin.

The Bombers were able to get another fine start from St. Louis native, Damien Rivera. This was Rivera’s final game with the Bombers. And he pitched a gem going seven innings, with seven strikeouts and three walks while giving up four runs while throwing 108 pitches. For his performance, Damien was named the H&R Block Never Settle For Less Player of the Game. Lefty, Andrew Godail came an pitched one inning giving up a couple of runs and striking out a batter. Nick Johnson then came in during the ninth inning with that nasty side arm delivery and punched out two Cane Cutters in the final inning.

Brennyn Smith made a nice play in the field by making a one handed catch on a ground ball and managing to get the ball to first baseman James Wharton for an out. Nick Smelser also made a nice grab on a ground ball with Wharton making a nice scoop at first to record the out. Myles Parma was able to make a nice catch in right as he had to back track a fly ball to make the out.

The Bombers close out this home stand tomorrow at 7:05 when they take on The Woodlands Strykers. The game is a Kids Free Saturday brought to you by Chicken Express! The game will also be MLB Night by Scott and White Health Plan, The One Texans Trust! Also, make plans to attend as there will be an appearance by Reggy the Purple Party Dude!
