Newcomers Provide Huge Boost as Bombers Roll

Box Score

Freddy Carmona, Taylor Zambreski and Danny Hernandez were fantastic in their debuts with the Bombers, as Brazos Valley defeated East Texas 8-3 to move back into second place in the TCL standings. The trio combined for five hits, four runs, and two RBI in leading the team to victory.

The Bombers struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead. Chad Colbert opened up the game with a sharp single up the middle and then stole second base. After Nick Anders walked, Cliff Vaughn and Tyler Huelsing used a pair of singles to drive home Colbert and Anders.

The Pumpjacks got things going in the fourth inning, loading the bases with just one out and Jared Wondra at the plate. Wondra lined the first pitch into the gap between right and center field, but Tyler Huelsing came flying in to make catch and then threw to second base to double off Dexter Moreno and end the inning.

East Texas finally got on the board in the top of the fifth inning, when they scored two runs on a pair of singles and a double. Two innings later, the Pumpjacks scored on one of the most bizarre plays in TCL history. With Adam De Le Garza stealing third base, Bombers catcher Eric Udell’s attempted throw hit Pumpjacks’ hitter Josh Riley on the helmet. The ball ricocheted into the Bombers dugout, allowing De Le Garza to score, tying the game at three.

With the score knotted at three in the bottom of the eighth inning, Bombers newcomer Danny Hernandez lined Luke Burnett’s first pitch into left field, scoring Huelsing for the go-ahead run. Later in the inning with the bases loaded and only one out, Chad Colbert hit a Texas-Leaguer into right field that dropped for a single and scored Huelsing. Zach Grichor kept the pressure on, singling to left field to score two more runs. Jason Zylstra pitched a perfect ninth inning to collect his league-leading fifth win.
